Week 2 at Camp NaNoWriMo

Week 2: Wed, Sept 12 recap

Our Camp NaNoWriMo prep & support group!

1. Distributed materials: Log-in information for the YWP website, Creating Well-Developed Characters handout (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5XLWiHqq_J-dG1LZHBmUC1TaEU/view), and Camp NaNoWriMo planner stickers for Wednesday activity periods

2. Characterization

–characters are so important because no one will continue with the book if the character isn’t worth it

–discussion about how much physical description to include ; group agreement: include the physical qualities that are going to be meaningful in the understanding of the character and/or plot

–the qualities of a protagonist and antagonist (physical antagonist vs. abstract protagonist)

–character questionnaires

–Gretchen McNeil’s advice when interviewed on 88 Cups of Tea podcast: do a Meyers-Briggs assessment on the characters. Mrs. Stone used this one for hers: https://blog.adioma.com/16-personality-types/

Next Wednesday: same time, same place! We’ll discuss how to conflict. And eat a snack. I can’t believe we haven’t incorporated food yet.
