Book review: The Hate U Give

I can’t talk about this book without goosebumps breaking out on my arms. It’s that good. It’s that well-written. And unfortunately, it’s that real.

Starr is riding in the passenger seat of her childhood bff’s car when he’s pulled over for a routine traffic stop. He ends up the victim of police violence. The story follows Starr from the night of Khalil’s fatal shooting, to how it turns her life upside down, how it affects her family and her neighborhood, how it changes her perspective on her identity, and what it means to be the only witness of a heinous crime.
