Review: An Ember in the Ashes

emberThis book might win for most tags.  A lot happens.

An Ember in the Ashes is a very intense book with a quick moving plot.  Some folks call it dystopian, some call it fantasy.  I’m going with fantasy due to the presence of magic.

The book opens with the introduction of two characters, and as the book jacket tells us, neither are free.

Laia becomes a slave for a brutal master.

Elias is on the fast-track to being a famed assassin.  (Assassins are so hot right now.)

Neither want to be in their current situation, both have the power to remove themselves, but both also have agendas that require them to survive the torture at least a little longer.  Their paths keep crossing…enough that you think maybe they can only survive by relying upon each other.  You know the story.

There’s also a character named Helene.  And I adore her.  Helene for Emperor.

I’m ready for the sequel!
